  • Jun, Wed, 2025

Setting up an IoT gateway may seem a very confusing or difficult task, especially if you are not familiar with the technical devices and their installation. But the fact is that with right guidance it’s a straightforward process, especially when you are working with a GL.iNet IoT gateway setup. All thanks to the app-based installation process. So in this blog-post we’ll be sharing the complete details about IoT gateway setup from GL.iNet (S-10). From understanding different LED patterns, package contents to the initial configuration, the post will cover everything.

Unbox Your Gateway

The first step in any GL.iNet IoT gateway setup is to carefully unbox your device. Inside the package, you will find these articles:

  • GL.iNet IoT gateway itself
  • A USB power cord
  • An external antenna alongside the quick installation manual.

Before proceeding to the setup steps, we advise you to take a moment to familiarize yourself with the ports and indicators on the gateway or you can say with the hardware of the device. You’ll find a one Megabit ethernet port, one reset button and three LED light indicators. Additionally, a power port for turning on the gateway device.

It’s crucial to ensure all components are present and undamaged before moving on to the next phase of your GL.iNet IoT gateway setup. In case any part is damaged or isn’t available, then replace the package by connecting to your seller.

LED Descriptions

The GL.iNet IoT gateway setup consists of three smart lights on the front panel. One depicts power, other is for BLE and the third one is for Network. So if the power light glows, it means the gateway device is active. Whereas if the power light is off, then the device is also off.

Moving further, when BLE light is off, it means the scanning mode is active. When the BLE LED blinks green, it depicts the disconnection of pairing mode and vice  versa if the light glows stable green.

Now white light on the Network LED ensures the ethernet is linked. Whereas if it blinks then it means the wifi is connected.

Now as you are familiar with the different LED behaviours, let’s check out the GL.iNet IoT gateway setup steps.

Quick Setup

Begin the process by installing the GL-S10 tool application on your device. The application is available on Google Play Store for android holders. Whereas for iOS holders the App store is the location for installation. Now as the installation completes, make sure you turn on the bluetooth of your host device. Remember android users also have to turn on GPS.

Moving further, for GL.iNet IoT gateway setup, you need to set the device in configuration mode. So for this nudge the reset button while your IoT gateway device is still off and now plug it in to turn on. Release the reset key only when the BLE LED in the middle begins to flicker.

Now open the installed application. Select the language. After that, tap on Scan. After the scanning, you’ll see the identity of your device. In case you get multiple options, then check the label on your gateway device to confirm which one is yours. Thereafter, tap on it to enter the “Manage Device” interface. Finally, make your necessary configurations one by one and keep on saving them.

Lastly, to restart the device in work mode, tap on the reboot option which is there at the bottom of the “Manage Device” screen. If the GL.iNet IoT gateway setup is successful, then you’ll be able to see the data on cloud.
